I use this hook to hang a bath mat up to dry after each shower. It looks kind of tacky, but it works. The mat is very heavy when wet and this Command hook has been holding up very well. I think it comes in different sizes, but I am using the large hook because of the weight of the mat when wet. I have a refinished iron and porcelain bathtub, and can’t leave a bath mat on it 24/7. Someone had this idea in their bath mat review, so I stole the idea. And it’s working great.

    I can't stand shampoo bottles on all the ledges of the shower - the bacteria that collects beneath... yuck! So I use a shower organizer. BUT I can't stand my shower organizer hanging over my shower head, mostly because I brush my teeth in the shower and the thought of splashing soapy water on my toothbrush as I rinse my hair, or worse, catching hair on my toothbrush... makes me want to wretch.

    This is my second time using this water resistant command hook, it's amazing! As long as it is installed correctly on an extremely clean surface, there should be no issue. I actually used Zep degreaser, then followed it up with isopropyl alcohol. I followed the instructions... mostly... It said to wait 24 hours before hanging anything, and I did not do that. I hung it right away and it's working like a charm!

    I'm planning to remodel my bathroom and will be refinishing my existing shower. I will absolutely be reinstalling this command hook afterward!

    I must admit these hooks have changed my opinion of stick on utility products. I will likely use these in the future for more applications because they don't damage the surface they are installed on (unless its weak paint or something compromised), come off cleanly in seconds and work very well.

    The most notable feature these hooks have is the easy release/remove adhesive strip. I was amazed when I went to reposition (comes with extra strip in case you screw up like I did) the hook and was able to just remove the adhesive with zero problems. Each adhesive strip has a tab at the end. If you pull on this tab the adhesive strip seems to just flow away from the joint and it all comes apart cleanly. I had a couple old adhesive hooks on my bathroom door that broke due to abuse. I never tried to scrape off the adhesive strip because I figured the door would look even worse after I got done with it. I noted after installing the hooks I'm reviewing that indeed the old hooks were the same easy release command brand type. I pulled the tabs and they popped right off cleanly....... mind you this was a hook that was installed on a 50 year old dried out door and held very strongly (the plastic broke not the adhesive ultimately) for years. The older hooks were put on by the previous owner so the adhesive tab cleanly released after being installed 5 plus years.

    I did carefully clean the surfaces with alcohol prior to installation.

    The 3M Command range, originally only of hooks in a few sizes, was intended initially to be used in 'dry' environments for use as coat hooks, for towels, bath robes etc but not necessarily where the product may be affected by steam or moisture. Although I have used several of the identical hook and also the smaller version, and they have survived for several years of constant use although a few have needed to be replaced eventually, I was not aware of the existence of the 'waterproof' version. The difference exists only in the nature of the strips used and not anywhere else. The hook appears to be appears to be a single moulding but is an assembly of the hook mounted on a back-plane. If, when installed on a surface you firmly push upwards on the hook, it will lift from the back-plane and expose a pull tab. Pulling on that tab will stretch it and break the seal.

    The principle is simple; the strips allow semi-permanent installation of one or several hooks which may be removed and re-used, if needed to be relocated, removed or possibly upgraded. The hook can be re-used if the non-reusable strip is replaced, either with the spare normally provided or if you buy a pack of spare strips which are available in several sizes.

    Proper preparation of the surface to which the hook is to be attached is essential and, if the instructions are correctly followed and especially in relation to the differently coloured sides, the hook should be usable for several years. I have some other products with non water-resistant strips that have been in continuous use in a location for several years and I have not yet had the indignity of one falling off either almost immediately after installion or ever. I have experienced a couple of breakages but only if accidentally overloaded, in one instance with an over-wet towel when several in succession were safely held for years both dry and mildly damp or when the material ages and yellows.

    Especially useful in the bathroom, shower or laundry room although I have experienced success with the standard 'non-waterproof' version used in the bathroom, when I did not have the option to use this version. They can be attached to tiles, glass (especially the thick and strengthened type used in showers), metal and painted or laquered wood and several other smooth surfaces. When correctly installed, they should never fall off and I have never yet experienced that happening with more than 20 having been used over time. In any event, the adhesive used with these feels far tackier than is 'normal'.
