    Best Technology Purchase

    Best Technology Purchase
I purchased these for my trip to Indonesia, a gruesome 30 hours flight and let me tell you this is probably one of my best technology purchase in 2017! PROS (+)The noise cancellation feature worked wonderfully to drown out any noise from the engine, but didn't really work on babies crying super loud. It couldn't block the noise completely, but it did make it more manageable and less annoying. (+)Very durable, I purchased this in December 2017 and I have been using them many times for 6 months now. So far so good! It still looks and feels brand new to me. (+)One of the best thing that I realized from using these on a very long flight was how comfortable these were! The cushion pads were comfortable as most headphones and I get into a bit of a tiff around the two-hour mark. They tend to squeeze my head but these doesn't do that. These headphones merely rest atop my head so it doesn't press on my skin. I can sleep with these on inside a plane. These are that comfy. (+)I use this together with my wife and she said that what she likes the most about these pairs is the fact that it doesn't catch her long hair, skin, or clothing ever! A huge plus for everyone with longer hair. (+)When I used the wire, I didn't have trouble with the controls. The wire were long enough to give enough room to move comfortably. (+)The case is compact, well organized and easy to store. It doesn't add much to your belongings, so perfect for carry-on. It feels well-made with high quality material CONS (-)It does look big and bulky but for all those awesome absolute silent nights these gave me while flying, I can live with that. (-)Like I said, didn't really work on babies crying super loud and kids screaming non-stop but it did make it manageable. All in all these are a great investment, especially if you can find them on sale!

I balked at buying the Bose, because I thought it was overpriced, and that probably all the manufacturers used the same generic digital signal processing chip. I've had two other inexpensive NC headsets, and thought they worked alright. The first non-Bose headset, I had two of, because the cables kept fraying and breaking. Can't remember the brand name anymore, but they were only about $35, so I thought, well, just my bad luck. Replaced them with inexpensive ($50) Sony headsets, and the Sony cables are durable, but the sound quality and cancellation wasn't quite as good, to my ears. Nevertheless, I kept the Sonys (and still have them), thinking again that Bose was just too darned expensive. Then I saw one day in the classroom that I work in, that there were several Bose QC25 headsets that the school had purchased, so I thought, hey, here's a chance to see if they're really worth all that money. The teacher let me borrow a pair, and as I left the school, I parked on the street, with my windows down, to listen to the car traffic go by, and try these out in an A/B test with the Sony NC headsets. Wow! It took me all of about 30 seconds to decide that they were worth the money. One of the reasons, perhaps, that they work so well, is that the headset completely covers my ear, and the Sony headsets did not have complete ear coverage. I've worn them for long periods of time, without discomfort, although if I wear them on the treadmill in the gym, they need to be wiped off from the perspiration on my head. My first A/B test with the Bose QC25 was to put it on, without plugging it into any device, and just switch the NC on and off, as cars and trucks passed by on the street. The results were simple: switched off, there was car noise; switched on, there was silence. I ordered a pair immediately, and have been happy with them ever since. They are great at cancelling droning noises, such as cars, or airplane engines, but not so good at nearby conversations. I do use them when working in a library, and they do a fair job of cancelling out the noisy kids at the next table, but not as profound as engine noise reduction. The big advantage I see to this model is that they use a single AAA battery, which lasts me about a week of listening to audiobooks, and the case has a holder for a spare battery. A rechargeable AAA battery works just fine, and the later model Bose headsets use some sort of proprietary non-replaceable battery, which in my view is a deal breaker. Your views about the bluetooth feature may make you think that the later Bose model would be better, but in my mind it's not, due to the many documented problems with bluetooth. These wired headsets just simply work, with anything that has a standard audio jack. The cable is not an inconvenience for me, and the easily replaceable AAA battery is a big plus. As for the cable, when I unpacked the box and saw it, my first thought was that if these expensive cables fray and break, I'm going to be out a bunch of money to replace them. Not true, you can buy generic replacement cables on Amazon, I did buy a couple, tried them, out, and tossed them into the drawer as backups, after finding that they worked just fine. I got two generic cables for less than the price of one Bose cable. My only advice as to these cables is this: they come in two flavors; one works only with Android and generic devices, and the other flavor works with Apple. Make sure you order the correct one for your device. I have used the Bose QC25 in place of my Plantronics bluetooth on my phone (android), and they work just fine, although legally I can't use them if I am driving, and must use my little hands-free earbud instead. They also work fine on my laptop, and a little generic MP3 player. The sound level is about the same in these headsets, with the power on or off, but they do sound a lot better with the power on. In short, spend the money, they're worth it.

I have owned 3 ANC headphones. First was the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9, which I bought about 3 years ago. I really liked them. Were comfortable. Worked great for cancelling airplane noise and other sounds. When walking, turning the noise cancelling to "high" made everything go quiet. I could see people speaking, but could hardly hear them. I believe I paid around $200 for them ($100 less then the Bose 25.)
They finally "died" and I bought a "cheap" set of Saxhorn ANC J2's. They are decent, but where nowhere close to the Audio-Technica set.
I finally decided to spend the $300 and get a set of Bose Quiet Comfort 25 Noise Cancelling phones. I don't regret it. I've only had them a few weeks, but they are by far the best ANC headphones I've owned.
      The pluses:

      Lightweight.
Comfortable fit. Pads are nice and soft.
      Small, compact carrying case
Uses a AAA battery to run the noise cancelling circuitry. Easy to change out the battery. Much more convenient than a rechargeable.
Will work even without the battery. However the sound quality is poor.
For me, sound quality is excellent with the ANC on. Basses are strong without being too booming. Midrange and highs are clear. I can hear separate instruments. I've played pop and classical music and both sound great. (I am Not an audiophile.)
When walking with the ANC on, I have to be extra careful, because traffic noise is almost completely muffled. Even talking is much less noticeable. My wife has to shake me to get my attention when I have them on. I haven't used them on a plane yet, but expect them to be very effective. (I read "somewhere" that the Bose cancel around 96-97% of noise. The Audio-technica about 94-95%; the rest about 90% or less.) After using the Bose, I agree.
For me, there is no "hiss" when the ANC is on and no music is playing. They put you in a cocoon of quiet.
The 6 foot cord is fine. It plugs into my phone or tablet without any issues. (I have Samsung devices/Android.)
      Build quality appears good.

      Minuses:
The straight end of the cord that plugs into the headphones appears to be a 2.5mm plug, instead of the more common 3.5mm. I don't know why Bose elected to do that. It doesn't make sense.
      They are expensive.

Overall, these are the best noise cancelling headphones available. I would rate the Audio-technica second. Forget the others.

Bose headphones are worth every cent. Bose has never disappointed me with their products and I intend to keep buying them. The noise cancelling on these are very exceptional. That feature runs on a AAA battery and lasts for a decent number of hours. It comes with one battery in the box for out-of-the-box use. I have a large fan in the corner of my room and after I turn noise cancelling on, the constant noise of the fan is completely gone. The ear cups on these are super comfortable and provide a great seal. The cushioning on the top is comfortable as well and doesn't get greasy or gross in any way. The auxiliary cable on it is very flexible and durable. The microphone is good and clear for calls or gaming. In my personal use, I game with these headphones on my PC. I prefer these over gaming headphones any day due to the overall sound quality, comfortability, and noise cancelling feature. They do come with a very nice carrying case that should help them from being crushed if you put them in a backpack or bag. The visual aesthetics of these are very pleasing. They're very nice to look at and don't look for feel bulky in anyway. I have a pair of Sony MDRX-950-bt and they have great bass but they honestly look ridiculous wearing. I would never wear then in public due to the ridiculous size. The bose quiet comfort on the other hand, I could confidently wear anywear and feel comfortable with. Overall these headphones are worth the money and I would highly recommend if you prefer clear, crisp sound with outstanding noise cancelling.

I've tried a lot of headphones and earphones over the past few years and this set is by far the best I've ever used. They come in a sleek compact case and fold nicely to fit within. There is also a spare battery slot and airline adaptor in the case.

The normal mode is really great. Clarity for highs, mids and lows while still handling the bass in the mix.
The noise cancelling is fantastic. Once the switch is flicked on the headphones take a split second to swap over to the channel. The difference is immediate. On a flight it kills about 90% of the engine sound. Only low bass sounds will cut through, but even then they're hollow. The music quality in noise-cancelling mode is at least as good as, if not marginally better than, normal mode.
The headphones are comfortable too. The cups go over the ears without pressing in on them. I used them for two consecutive flights totalling 24 hours and found no discomfort at all.
The battery life is very impressive. I would estimate I got around 60 hours out of a single AAA battery. Replacing this is incredibly easy too.
The manual controls are fine - the play/pause and volume control work perfectly with Spotify, YouTube and Google Play Music.

I would recommend these headphones to anybody who loves their music or flies regularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasure listening experience, for hours on end.
Reviewed in Canada on December 11, 2018
      These headphones are great.

The noise cancelling is great for planes, buses and anything with bassy tones. It isn't active noise cancellation, so it won't tune out higher pitched noises. Still works great, and I love them for that.

The comfort is second to none. Holy. They're nice and light, and the clamping force is perfect - no pain or discomfort, but they won't fall off if your just walking or casual use. Using them for exercise or training is not recommend.

Runs on a single AAA battery. This is for the noise canceling. If your battery dies, you can still use the headphones - you'll just lose the noise canceling. Lasts for a long time - 30+ hours. In the carrying case, there is a battery holder, so I just put an extra battery there, in case the one in use dies.

      The cons...
Durability and build quality: it does come with a hardshell carrying case. The build is fairly light, adding to the comfort, but it's mostly plastics and, for the price you're paying for, feels kind of cheap. Terms of longevity, that's still up in the air, but I've made sure I'm extra careful with them.

Sound signature... This is always up for debate, and quite frankly, personal preference. Simply put: it's a pleasant listening experience. The signature is fairly balanced, lacking in the low end, but, it allows me to listen to music hours on end. The noise cancelling definitely adds to that effect. I personally love the sound signature on the AudioTechnica M50X's, and that's what I'm comparing them too. If you're just an average listener, these will sound great to you. If you're expecting the best sound signature and that matters to you, these headphones might not be for you.

The Bose are great - they offer a pleasurable listening experience, and the comfort and noise cancelling add an enhanced experience.
I recommend these headphones specifically to people who are looking for comfort and nose cancelling over the sound signature.

Would I buy again? No, I prefer sound over comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr guter Reisekopfhörer - mittelmäßig für Hifi
Reviewed in Germany on June 18, 2018
Also z.B.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buena calidad y reducción de ruido
Reviewed in Spain on October 17, 2018

Reviewed in France on February 27, 2018
The media could not be loaded.
